It’s looking like a GREAT line-up for 2017…
It seems that Strictly Come Dancing celebrities are like buses – you spend all summer speculating who’s gonna take part, and then five come along at once.
The fifth star that is set to take to the dance floor has been announced, and we’re super excited to reveal it’s Reverend Richard Coles!
The news was announced on BBC Radio’s Chris Evans’ Breakfast show, and the Reverend is delighted, saying: ‘I have been waiting by the phone for 11 years and a lady called and asked to have a top secret meeting and we met in a bar around the corner from the BBC. Then she offered it to me.’
You may know the Church of England Priest as a former pop star and part British duo Communards, as well as this the Rev is a former journalist.
But it looks like he isn’t hopeful about his skills on the hit BBC1 show as he adds: ‘I love dancing and I love music but I’m more from the David Brent school of dancing. God has not bestowed me with the gift of dancing’
The news comes after it was revealed the Emmerdale’s Gemma Atkinson was the fourth celeb to take part.
The news was revealed on BBC Breakfast, with Gem – whose ex-boyfriends include footballers Marcus Bent and Cristiano Ronaldo – saying: ‘I’m beyond excited and incredibly nervous but I am looking forward to learning a new skill in ballroom and latin dancing and taking on this new challenge.’
Gem first hit the big time as Lisa Hunter on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, and went on to appear in Casualty and as a contestant on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
The announcement comes just a day after it was revealed that a very special member of the This Morning family will be taking part in the 2017 series.
Host Eamonn Holmes ramped up the excitement on Wednesday morning, telling his followers: ‘On this morning’s @thismorning we will be revealing who in the This Morning family will be part of this year’s @bbcstrictly ! Guess who ?’
And after a load of online speculation, the next contestant was announced as his wife and co-host, Ruth Langsford!
The Loose Women star teased viewers all morning with hubby, Eamonn finally revealing the truth by introducing Ruth through a sparkly yellow door.
The 57-year-old was then met by roaring cheers around the studio before admitting she hadn’t even told her fellow LW panellists!
Speaking to former Strictly winner, Karen Hardy, Ruth confessed: ‘I’ve wanted to do Strictly every year, I’m so excited.’
The other stars confirmed to be taking to the dancefloor are EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami and The Saturdays star Mollie King.
Davood – who has played Kush Kazemi since 2014 – has said it was ‘such an honour’ to be asked, revealing: ‘It’s going to be exciting, challenging and terrifying all at once and I am so looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and learning to dance.’
Meanwhile, Mollie confirmed the news on Nick Grimshaw‘s Radio 1 breakfast Show on Monday morning, telling the bequiffed host: ‘I’m a huge fan of Strictly Come Dancing so I can’t actually believe I’m lucky enough to be taking part in it this year!
‘I’m literally so excited to learn Latin and ballroom dancing, and of course I can’t wait to get into the sequins too!’
The blonde beauty added: ‘It’s going to be a lot of hard work but I’m ready for the challenge.’
Mollie follows in the footsteps of her Saturdays bandmate Frankie Bridge, who made it to the final three of the 2014 series of Strictly, losing out to eventual winner Caroline Flack and runner-up Simon Webbe.
So can Mollie go one better than Frankie and lift that famous glitterball trophy? Only time will tell!
Whilst we wait for more news from Strictly HQ, check out the list of other celebs who are rumoured to be joining the show…
Yup, we might know fitness guru and general social media god The Body Coach for his impressive workouts and amazing recipes, but gym bunny Joe could be about to become the new Twinkle Toes as he’s reportedly signed on the dotted line.
‘Joe would be perfect on Strictly. The bosses have been eager to make sure he signs the deal as soon as possible,’ a source told The Sun.
And it seems like BBC bosses are already planning some VERY tight outfits for the 30-year-old as another insider told the Daily Star: ‘He would certainly get the ratings up – especially in the costumes they have planned for him. There will be a lot of flesh on show, that’s for sure.’
But Joe isn’t the only bit of eye candy rumoured to be taking part as Bros star, Matt Goss has reportedly joined the show after previously dancing in the 2013 Christmas Special along with partner Aliona Vilani.
‘Matt is an amazing coup for Strictly,’ a source revealed to The Sun.
‘He’s a massive sex symbol with a huge fan base across the world for both his music and his hunky looks so he bring in even more viewers.‘ Oooo la la.
Comedian, Joel may have come runner up in last year’s I’m A Celeb, but this could be his time to shine as bosses are supposedly desperate to secure the funny man.
A source told the Daily Star that bosses have been ‘impressed’ by the 30-year-old’s rise to fame over recent months and they think he’ll be a ‘great signing’.
Well, he certainly enjoyed showing off his best Dirty Dancing moves with Strictly’s Ola Jordan in the Jungle…
Luckily, there are actually some ladies lined up for the show as well, as Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins has revealed she wants to follow in the fox-trotting footsteps of co-star Susanna Reid.
‘I would love to do Strictly because I do love dancing,’ the breakfast TV presenter recently told the Radio Times. ‘It would be an amazing challenge to do, definitely.’
And after Susanna came runner-up in 2013, we’ve got high hopes for Charlotte!
Steph and Dom
Gogglebox‘s favourite posh couple could also be heading for the dancefloor as it’s been reported that producers are convinced they’ll provide the same hilarious dance moves as viral sensation Ed Balls.
‘They’re great characters and everyone loves watching them just when they’re sat on their sofa,’ a source previously told The Sun.
‘Dom has the potential to provide great routines like Ed did and Steph would be fantastic going up against the judges.’
Although no one can replace Ed…
