YG Affiliate Slim 400 Was Shot 8 Times and is in “Critical But Stable” Condition After Surgery

Rapper Slim 400 was involved in a shooting in Compton Friday night (Jun. 28) and was rushed to the hospital multiple gunshot wounds.

Sources with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said they received a call around 8:30 p.m. for a male who’d been shot multiple times.

It isn’t clear what led up to the shooting, though a black vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident was seen leaving the scene.

Adam22 of No Jumper first tweeted the news asking for prayers.

He later shared an update with fans by posting a text message exchange with an unknown person on Twitter.

He’s since deleted the screenshot of the text thread, but the messages stated that the 31-year-old rapper was shot several times on Spruce St. in Compton.

According to the messages, Slim was shot in the face and back, however, the bullets “went in and out.” He was rushed into surgery at St. Francis Medical Center.

Slim 400’s publicist later released an official update, saying that the rapper had undergone surgery and was in stable condition.

Online reports suggested Slim 400 had been shot 10 times, however, TMZ is reporting that the rapper was shot 8 times.

TMZ added that the Slim 400 was conscious after the surgery, and his close friend and fellow rapper YG was at his bedside for most of the night. His condition was described as “critical but stable.”

Saturday afternoon, Adam22 provided yet another update, saying that Slim 400 was “stable and trying to talk.”

Slim 400 is a Compton native and is best known for the song “Bruisin” featuring YG and Sad Boy Loko.

Slim 400’s shooting comes almost three months to the day Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed outside his The Marathon clothing store in Crenshaw.

Safaree Begs Erica Mena to Take Him Back After He’s Caught Cheating With His Ex-Girlfriend, Plus Erica Trashed the Roses He Sent Her

Another Love & Hip-Hop relationship is in shambles. Erica Mena has apparently dropped Safaree Samuels after his ex-girlfriend exposed him for allegedly cheating with her.

Erica became a trending Twitter topic early Friday morning (Jun. 28) when her Instagram Stories showing off her crazy “Scorpio Vibes” went viral.

The videos showed Erica’s floor littered with broken vases and smashed roses that Safaree had sent her. “Scorpio Vibes,” she captioned the video.

Another clip showed Erica furiously knocking the flowers off a countertop an onto the floor.

Erica also removed Safaree’s last name from her Instagram bio.

By Friday afternoon, Safaree was apologizing on Twitter and begging his fiancée to take him back.

“This is not a loss I would be able to handle … I cannot lose you. You are my everything and I can’t see my future without you,” he wrote.

“I am sorry for any embarrassment I have brought to you from me being immature,” he continued. “I apologize from the depths of my soul & heart. You are the most important person to me in the world.”

The couple’s rosy relationship was seemingly shattered (like those vases) after Safaree’s ex, former Love & Hip-Hop Miami star, Gabrielle Davis, randomly shared a series of text messages between her and Safaree.

In the texts, Safaree professes his love to Gabrielle while also claiming that he has no plans of marrying Erica anytime soon.

Though it seems like Gabrielle released the texts to expose Safaree for cheating, the timeline is a little unclear.

Some of the texts seem recent while others are dated in May and November of 2018.

Safaree and Erica went public with their relationship in November 2018.

Erica didn’t forget about Gabrielle either. She seemingly called her a “basic b*tch” with a meme.

Twitter had mixed reactions watching this Love & Hip-Hop romance drama play out on social media.

And my reality show senses tell that Mona Scott-Young has a hand in all of the this and the LHH cameras are capturing it all.

(And we still don’t know who’s gonna clean up all that broken glass on the floor!)

Elizabeth Banks Has Big Plans for Her Feminist Charlie’s Angels Reboot

elizabeth banks on the set of Charlie's Angels.

This week saw the premiere of the first trailer for the latest reboot of Charlie’s Angels. And while our own Princess Weekes was less than impressed with the results, I find myself eagerly anticipating this movie.

As a Charlie’s Angels fan (TBH a fan of anything with female spies), I must admit that while the trailer was good, what really excites me about the film is writer/director/co-star Elizabeth Banks. Banks has spent years in Hollywood as a singular talent that has been vastly underutilized. She spent years playing “the girl” in Judd Apatow comedies and variations of the girlfriend trope in other studio films, when she is a gifted comedic actress in her own right.

In the past few years Banks has made a name for herself as a savvy producer who oversaw the hugely successful Pitch Perfect franchise and Hulu’s Shrill. Banks directed Pitch Perfect 2, which was one of the highest grossing films for a first-time female director. She has continually championed female-driven stories, so she seems perfectly poised to deliver the first Charlie’s Angels film directed by a woman. The 2000 Charlie’s Angels and its 2003 sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle were both directed by McG and written by a team of men, although Full Throttle featured Marianne Wibberley as a co-writer.

Banks not only wrote and directed Charlie’s Angels, but appears as Bosley in the film. In a new interview with Collider, she discusses the film’s message.

Banks says, ““One of the statements this movie makes is that you should probably believe women … We have as much validity in what we’re feeling and how we want to go about living in the world, being in the world, and that was really important to me, that we felt like we had characters that were being taken seriously and given a chance to live their best life.”

Banks also touched on the feminism in the film, saying, “I feel like this entire endeavor is about giving women the opportunity, including myself, to participate fully in a really big action franchise. We’ve done it. It’s been something that’s been in the DNA of Charlie’s Angels from the beginning.”

And while the Charlie’s Angels films of the early 2000s reveled in a kind of pop cheeky feminism, there are still several moments where the Angels are the subject of the male gaze. Banks wanted to avoid that by keeping her actors comfortable and centering the film on their skills and intelligence. Banks said of the process, “The women in this film use their brains and their wits. We had a mantra which was we are going to fight smarter, not harder. That was how we approached most of the action sequences in the movie. The women in the film, for instance, I had another mantra on set which was everybody gets to wear what they feel awesome and comfortable wearing and what they want to strut around in in this movie. Whatever makes her feel best coming to set. That was the attitude we had about how we shot the film.”

Banks also prioritized diversity in the film, which she says she made to appeal to the female audience. “It’s important that women, the audience for this movie, sees themself in some part of this movie. I think that’s really important” Banks said. “I want the audience to feel a sense of ownership over the film, that they could be in this movie, that they could live in this world, it’s a real message. It’s a movie that I want to entertain all audiences but I did want to make something that felt important to women and especially young girls.”

I mean, what else can I say but I’m totally here for this movie. What do you think?

Top 5 Reasons Why Spider-Man 2 Remains One of the Best Superhero Films Ever

tobeyt maguire as peter parker in spider-man 2.

The superhero movie genre has undergone a massive metamorphosis over the years, leading to the complete market saturation audiences find themselves in today. Due to the omnipresence of comic book films and TV series, it’s worth remembering that this wasn’t always the status quo. A handful of successful superhero films with universal appeal helped to kickstart the genre, but few are as beloved as Sam Raimi’s 2004 Spider-Man 2 starring Tobey Maguire.

15 years later (feel old yet?), Spider-Man 2 remains a nearly flawless film that elevates the genre in bold and unexpected ways. With a brilliant script from Oscar-winning screenwriter Alvin Sargent (who passed away just last month) and bold direction by Sam Raimi, Spider-Man 2 was a critical and commercial success, as well as the gold standard in superhero cinema. Here are our top 5 reasons why we’ll always love Spider-Man 2.

Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius

alfred molina as otto octavius aka doc ock

They say that a hero is only as good as their villain. Alfred Molina’s Otto Octavius is not a villain, at least not at the start. He’s a warm, empathetic mentor to Peter, a science genius who adores his wife and his work. Otto’s villainy comes not from greed or a hunger for power, but from a failed experiment that robs him of both his free will and his wife. It’s a tragic tale that is well grounded in character development and a terrific performance by Alfred Molina. When Peter convinces Otto to destroy his fusion reactor to save the city, Otto sacrifices his life, making him one of the few antagonists to experience redemption.

The “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head” Sequence

Halfway through the film, Peter Parker decides to hang up his spidey suit after his powers start failing him. This leads to the bounciest emotional crisis ever, as Peter stumbles through getting his life back on track by focusing on himself, his schoolwork, and his relationships. This is a scene I’ve revisited many times over the years, because the editing, pacing, and humor all clicks perfectly together. The freeze frame ending is just icing on the cake, as it underlies how false Peter’s attempts at normalcy are. The city needs Spider-Man, so when he finally takes back the suit and swings into action, the audience is rooting for him more than ever.

Sam Raimi’s Signature Horror Touch

Before he took on Spider-Man, Raimi was beloved for his Evil Dead franchise, which seamlessly blended horror and comedy. The surgery scene in Spider-Man 2 is filled with classic Raimi touches as Doc Ock’s robotic tentacle arms attack the medical staff. There’s screaming, fast and fluid camerawork, and of course, a chainsaw. One wonders what Raimi could have done with an R-rated superhero property if given the chance.

The Romance

kirsten dunst as mary jane in spider-man 2

Superhero movies don’t have the greatest track record with romance. The love interest is usually relegated to a weak B-plot that is often the least memorable aspect of the movie. But Raimi’s Spider-Man films have always centered Peter’s journey around his romance with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). It helps that Dunst and Maguire have a natural chemistry together (the couple dated in real life), but the films have always allowed the romance to flourish. Spider-Man 2 even ends with a spin on the classic romcom ending, with Mary Jane leaving her groom at the altar to tell Peter she loves him. Few superhero films before or since have been able to create an equally compelling love story.

Spider-Man Unmasked

spider-man 2 train

The people of New York City have always played an important part in Raimi’s narrative. The first film features a scene of citizens talking straight to the camera to share their views on Spidey. There is also a moment where Peter is helped by New Yorkers who throw trash at the Green Goblin during the climactic fight. The sequel takes this one step further, in a scene where Peter stops a runaway train. He collapses, unmasked, on the train as passengers lift up his body and carry him to safety. They keep his identity a secret until he is revived. It’s a touching moment that brings the community into the hero’s journey and reminds us that Spider-Man is truly a part of the city.

Things We Saw Today: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Kamala Harris Invite the USWNT to D.C.

uswnt team beats thailand.

Last week, soccer star Megan Rapinoe made headlines when asked if she would go to the White House if the USWNT won the Women’s World Cup. Rapinoe responded by saying, “Psshh, I’m not going to the f*cking White House”, which set off a social media storm that included a series of angry tweets from Donald Trump himself.

Rapinoe isn’t the only team member who opposes Trump. Soccer star Alex Morgan said she would decline an invite in an interview with Time Magazine, where she said “I don’t stand for a lot of things the current office stands for.” Morgan continued by saying, “We don’t have to be put in this little box … There’s the narrative that’s been said hundreds of times about any sort of athlete who’s spoken out politically. ‘Stick to sports.’ We’re much more than that, O.K.?”

Teammate Ali Krieger also refused an invite, tweeting:

Now, Rapinoe and her teammates have received a much more compelling invitation to Washington, D.C. thanks to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. AOC tweeted an invite to Rapinoe inviting her and her teammates to the House of Representatives.

Rapinoe was quick to accept the invite:

Kamala Harris quickly joined by inviting the USWNT to the Senate, where she got in a dig about Trump’s preferred catering menu and received an enthusastic reply from athlete Alex Morgan:

Don’t miss the next USWNT match against rival England in the semifinals on July 2. Who else has World Cup Fever?

Chick-fil-A Worker Jumps Out Drive-Thru Window to Save 6-Year-Old Boy From Choking to Death

Not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes they’re dressed in plain red shirts and black slacks and say “My pleasure” instead of “You’re welcome” when you thank them.

A Chick-fil-A employee in Georgia is being called a hero after his quick thinking saved a 6-year-old boy from possibly choking to death.

While working the drive-thru at the Atlanta-area restaurant on Wednesday (Jun. 26), Logan Simmons overheard a panicked mother screaming that her son’s seat belt had wrapped around his neck and was choking him.

Logan quickly sprung into action, jumping out of the window of the drive-thru and running to the woman’s car.

He pulled out his pocket knife and then cut the child free, preventing what could have been a tragedy, WSBTV reported.

The moment he jumped out of the window was captured on security cameras from inside the restaurant.

“I’m still kind of shocked right now myself that all this has happened,” Simmons told the news station. “You could see he was turning red and losing pigmentation in his face.”

Logan’s mom told Channel 2 News that she was proud of her son and “amazed he didn’t panic.”

“As his mother, I would have panicked,” Teri Simmons said. “I’d be running around going, ‘Oh my gosh! What do we do?’”

About an hour after Simmons’ heroic gesture, he received a phone call from the little boy’s mother, who thanked him for saving her son’s life and called him a hero.

“I do feel like a hero,” the teen said.

DaBaby Charged in Deadly Walmart Shooting, Sentenced to One Year of Unsupervised Probation

DaBaby has been charged in connection to a fatal shooting in a North Carolina Walmart, The Charlotte Observer reports.

Last November, the Charlotte rapper was arrested for the shooting death of 19-year-old Jalyn Domonique Craig, but was released within hours of the incident after it was determined that he acted in self-defense.

A couple of days after the shooting, DaBaby explained in a video he shared on Instagram that he was in the store shopping with his two kids—a 1-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son—along with their mother when someone pulled a gun on him “and tried to take my life.”

He said that the “gunshots” shoppers heard in the store that day saved the lives of him and his family.

“If them gunshots ain’t go off … my daughter could’ve got hit, son could’ve got hit, me,” he said in the video.

DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, was never charged with Craig’s death, but he was charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon. That charge, however, was dropped back in April.

After appearing in court Thursday before a District Judge, the 27-year-old rapper was reportedly “recharged” and found guilty of the concealed weapon charge, which is a misdemeanor.

According to The Charlotte Observer, prosecutors recharged Kirk on the concealed weapon charge after another judge denied a motion to continue the case after a key witness didn’t appear in court.

DA’s office spokeswoman Meghan McDonald told The Observer that recharging a defendant in this circumstance is permitted by North Carolina law.

As a result of the charge, DaBaby was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation, which means that he won’t be placed on any traveling restrictions, but most stay out of legal trouble for the next 12 months.

Still … the news is hella good for DaBaby (considering the alternative) because he’s currently on tour and actually has a show tomorrow night in Worcester, Massachusetts. He also has back-to-back dates throughout July and August.

DaBaby has enjoyed a very successful 2019, which saw him release his debut studio album Baby on Baby, which debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the U.S. before eventually rising to number seven.

Earlier this week, on Sunday (Jun. 23) night, he performed the album’s hit single “Suge” at the 2019 BET Awards in his first live televised performance ever.

“Suge” is currently No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 after peaking at No. 8 earlier this month.

Today (Jun. 28), he celebrated two brand new gold single certifications for Baby on Baby tracks “Goin Baby” and “Sitter,” which features Offset.

WATCH: Critics Clash Over “Toy Story 4” Not Having Any Black Lead Characters

Toy Story was a beloved film that was part of my childhood (and maybe yours too). Nearly 25 years later, the final installment, Toy Story 4, just hit theaters and some critics are pointing out the franchise’s flaws and wondering: Where are the black characters?

Two black critics clashed on Good Morning Britain while discussing the lack of black lead characters in Toy Story 4.

Despite the film having black voice actors (Keegan Michael-Key, Jordan Peele), Shola Mos-Shogbamimu argued that Disney-Pixar could do better in sharing diverse experiences and any adult who dismisses the criticism is “diabolically ignorant.”

“Children deserve to have a representative teachable moment of their lived experience,” she said. “We know toys don’t talk, we know they don’t fly, but entertainment must always have a moralistic value.”

Mos-Shogbamimu continued:

“Animation and fictional characters take on human characteristics for a reason, to tell a moral story of good overcoming evil, good overcoming against the odds.

“Children are diverse and have diverse experiences. Movie companies like Pixar and Disney have a global platform to become part of the evolution of diversity and inclusion.”

However, Glam Africa Magazine editor-in-chief Afua Adom pushed back, stating the film did the best it could with diversity.

“People have missed the point of Toy Story – it’s a story about toys,” she said. “It’s about Mr. Potato Head, it’s about Buzz Lightyear, it’s about Woody. I think I saw a diverse range of characters.”

Adom also noted the black actors used to voice some of the characters.

And though there aren’t any black leads in the film, Adom acknowledged the plot and new main character Forky (a plastic fork) did present a teachable moment for children: sustainability.

“When we watched it, my daughter picked up on ‘Hold on, why is Forky is trying to get back to the trash? Shouldn’t he be trying to get back to the recycling?’”

The debate was sparked by white writer Stella Duffy who recently slammed Toy Story 4 for having no black lead characters in a review.

Duffy also called the film disablist and anti-feminist for its depiction of Bo Peep.

“Okay, let’s talk about the white feminism on display here. Oh look! Bo-Peep’s a feminist. No she’s not! She’s still going to fall in love, she’s still going to have the happily ever after, that’s not feminism!

“It’s a woman who kicks off her skirt to reveal bloomers. Had a couple of thoughts… and does some high wire acts. And it’s disablist! It covers ALL bases!”

When a Good Morning Britain anchor asked if Bo Peep was a feminist, Adom swiftly responded: “She’s a toy.”

However, Mos-Shogbamimu was a little more willing to give the character some credit.

“If we understand that feminism is about women’s rights and women being able to make whatever choices they want without anybody judging them – as far as I’m concerned, then every woman is a feminist,” she said.

While films, be it animated or live-action, should be diverse and have some moral value or teachable moments as Mos-Shogbamimu suggests, Toy Story doesn’t necessarily have the opportunity to have lead black characters because they are—after all—just toys.

I guess next time, add a Black Barbie or a Bratz Doll and get Tyra Banks to voice the character!

Nicki Minaj Fuels Rumors She’s Pregnant With Her Boyfriend Kenneth Petty’s Baby

Nicki Minaj has the whole world thinking she is pregnant.

Last week, the Queens rapper sent fans in a frenzy after she posted a video of her boyfriend Kenneth Petty rubbing her belly as the two lay in bed together.

The video instantly sparked rumors that Nicki and her BF are expecting their first child together.

To add more fuel to the fire, Nicki posted a tweet following her appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that only made the rumors seem even more true.

While on the show, Nicki and Jimmy enjoyed each other’s company at Red Lobster eating cheddar bay biscuits and drinking what appeared to be cocktails.

Fans took to social media to speculate about what Nicki was sipping on during her TV show appearance, but Nicki quickly cleared things up and let it be known she was NOT drinking alcohol.

“For the record; that was iced tea in that lobsterita glass. No alcohol was consumed in the making of our dinner date,” Nicki tweeted along with a blushing emoji.

Later in an Instagram Live video, Nicki responded to the pregnancy rumors without giving a clear answer to whether she’s expecting or not.

“And as for that question that y’all really wanted the answer to all I can say is…Bratatatat!”

Either Nicki is seriously trolling us all or we should be getting prepared for a baby Onika on the way.

Milwaukee Dad Punches, Kills 5-Year-Old Son for Eating a Piece of His Father’s Day Cake

A Milwaukee man is facing serious charges after he punched and killed his 5-year-old son for eating a cake he received for Father’s Day.

29-year-old Travis Stackhouse was charged with first-degree reckless homicide in connection with the crime and faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.

Stackhouse initially told police that his son had got injured after “somersaulting down the stairwell” in their home.

But after the child’s 6-year-old brother revealed to authorities that he didn’t fall down any stairs, Stackhouse confessed that he got upset over the child and others eating his Father’s Day cake … which eventually led him to punch the child in the face and in the stomach.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by FOX6, the incident took place on June 22nd, and the child suffered bruises to both his eyes, a cut on his lip and sternum.

An autopsy also revealed the boy suffered blunt force trauma to the abdomen, which officials said contributed to his death.

Stackhouse—who is the father of four other children—also revealed to authorities during the investigation that his girlfriend had warned him in the past to not “hit the children so hard,” suggesting this isn’t the first time the man has physically abused one of his kids.

Stackhouse appeared in court Thursday at the Milwaukee County Jail, where he was given a $100,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing was set for July 5th.
